Collection Statement
The collection includes church histories that Detzler compiled, along with miscellaneous other records and materials from his life and the Northwest Indiana Conference.

Biographical Sketch
Jack J. Detzler was born July 20, 1922, in South Bend, Ind., the son of John Jacob and Thekla (King) Detzler. He received an A.B. in 1943 and a Ph.D. in 1952 from Indiana University, and an A.M. in 1946 from the University of Wisconsin. His writings include: History of the Northwest Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church: 1852-1951 (1952); South Bend, 1900-1910: The Awakening of a Small Town (1959; South Bend, 1910-1920: A Decade Dedicated to Reform (1960); Diary of Howard Stillwell Stanfield: 1864-65 (1969); South Bend, 1920-1930: The Emergence of a City (1973) and a biography of Paul M. Butler. Detzler, of Mishawaka, Ind., emeritus professor of history and vice-president at St. Mary's College, died Sept. 2005.
